The history of Eberstein Castle stretches far back into the past and is closely
past and is closely linked to the family of the Margraves of Baden. The castle was built in the 13th century and originally served as a fortress and residence for the Counts of Eberstein. Margrave Berthold von Baden played a special role in the history of the castle. In the 15th century, he was the ruler of the region and fell madly in love with an enchanting woman. However, their love was overshadowed by social conventions and political constraints and the relationship had to be kept secret. Eberstein Castle became the site of secret meetings between the lovers and the center of a passionate romance that can still be felt within its walls today.

Over the centuries, the castle has been rebuilt and extended several times. One of the most significant construction phases took place in the early 19th century, when the architect Friedrich Weinbrenner was commissioned to redesign the castle in the neoclassical style, giving it its characteristic elegance and creating an architectural jewel.
